The Catholic Public Domain Version, Original Edition was completed on March 28th, 2009.

This version of the Bible is called the Catholic Public Domain Version (CPDV) of the Holy Bible. The Catholic Public Domain Version of the Bible is a translation of the Sacred Bible, Sixtus V and Clement VIII Latin Vulgate edition. The 1914 Hetzenauer edition of the Vulgate was the main source text. Several other Latin editions were consulted including the 1861 Vercellone edition, the 1822 - 1824 Leander van Ess edition (which compares the 1590, 1592, 1593, 1598 editions of the Sixtus V and Clement VIII editions), and the modern-day Tweedale Edition (London, 2005). The Challoner Douay-Rheims Version of the Bible was used as a guide in translating the Latin text into English. The original Rheims Douai Bible was also frequently consulted.

The sole translator and editor of the Catholic Public Domain Version is Ronald L. Conte Jr. I have relied on God's Providence and Grace in translating and editing the Sacred Bible. I also have used various reference texts, in print and in electronic form. Since the Latin editions of the Bible used in this translation are in the public domain, as the sole translator and editor of the Catholic Public Domain Version of the Sacred Bible, I hereby place the Catholic Public Domain Version of the Sacred Bible in the public domain in perpetuity.

As a text in the public domain, the Catholic Public Domain Version of the Sacred Bible has no copyright, trademark, or other legal restrictions. The only restriction is that there can be no restriction. No one may copyright this version of the Bible. No one may trademark the version name: Catholic Public Domain Version (CPDV). Anyone may publish the Catholic Public Domain Version, in whole or in part; no further permission is needed. It can be published in print or in electronic form by any individual or group. However, anyone publishing this version of the Bible may not copyright or restrict their publication in any way, shape, or form. It must remain in the public domain.

Anyone may make their own version of the Bible, based on, or derived from, this version. While some may criticize this translation, "no one is forbidden to do it better!" Any Biblical scholar, or other person, who thinks that he can improve on this version, can make whatever changes to this version that he sees fit to make. Changed, altered, or edited versions of the Catholic Public Domain Version can be published in print or electronically, in whole or in part; no further permission is needed. However, no one may copyright or otherwise restrict any edit of this edition of the Bible; this version must remain in the public domain. But if anyone prepares a substantially new version of the Bible, based on or derived from this version, please consider placing the new version also in the public domain.

Translators are welcome to translate the Catholic Public Domain Version of the Sacred Bible into other languages. However, I ask that all such translations remain in the public domain, without any restrictions or claim of ownership. The Bible is a gift from God to all humanity. No one should own or restrict what is given to all by God.

I strongly recommend that everyone refrain from doing anything with this version of the Bible that might incur the wrath of God. If anyone tries to copyright or otherwise restrict this version of the Bible, may God rebuke them. If anyone promotes or distributes this version of the Bible, or frees it from unjust restrictions, may God bless them.

The Catholic Public Domain Version of the Sacred Bible can be freely distributed in print and electronic form. Anyone can distribute this version in electronic form, through file sharing networks, web sites, and all other forms of communication and distribution. I am placing the Catholic Public Domain Version of the Sacred Bible entirely in the public domain. But no person, company, or organization may claim any kind of copyright or restriction whatsoever on this version of the Bible. Those who place copies of this version on their web site cannot claim a copyright on the electronic or web version, even if they make some changes to the files.

The Catholic Public Domain Version was created by making a verse by verse translation of the Latin Vulgate Bible, comparing each verse to the text of the Challoner Douay Rheims version. The Catholic Public Domain Version is a new translation of the Latin Vulgate, made using the Challoner Douay Rheims version as a guide.

The Catholic Public Domain Version (CPDV) is intended to be an accurate, modern English, public domain version of the Bible, which is freely and widely available in electronic form, including over the internet. Please feel free to post this version for viewing, and to offer the files as a download, on your web site. The files are all public domain and free to download, use, and redistribute. However, you may not claim any copyright or other restriction on your posting of these files, even if you make some changes.

If anyone tries to take this version out of the public domain, may God prevent them and rebuke them. The Holy Bible should not be owned by anyone. No version of the Bible should be under copyright or other restriction. The Word of God should be freely and easily available to everyone.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT) is a translation of the Bible into English, published in 1862. The translation was made by Robert Young, compiler of Young's Analytical Concordance to the Bible and Concise Critical Comments on the New Testament. Young used the Textus Receptus (TR) and the Majority Text (MT) as the basis for his translation. Young produced a “Revised Version” of his translation in 1887, which he based on the 1881 Westcott–Hort text. After Robert Young died on October 14, 1888, the publisher[who?] released a new Revised Edition in 1898. The 1898 version though was based on the TR, easily confirmed by the word "bathe" in Rev. 1:5 and the word "again" in Rev 20:5.

The World English Bible (also known as the WEB) is a free updated revision of the American Standard Version (1901). It is one of the few public domain, modern-English translations of the entire Bible, and it is freely distributed to the public using electronic formats. The Bible was created by volunteers using the ASV as the base text as part of the ebible.org project through Rainbow Missions, Inc., a Colorado nonprofit corporation.

The World English Bible claims to be one of the few English-language Bibles custom translated to be understood by most English-speakers worldwide, eliminating the need for data-processing based or computer operating system-specific internationalizations. Work on the World English Bible began in 1997 and was first known as the American Standard Version 1997.
The World English Bible project was started to produce a modern English Bible version that is not copyrighted, does not use archaic English (such as the KJV), and is not translated in Basic English (such as the Bible In Basic English). The World English Bible follows the American Standard Version's decision to transliterate the Tetragrammaton, but it alters the name of God, "Jehovah", to read as "Yahweh". The British and Messianic Names editions as well as the Apocryphal books use the traditional forms (e.g., the LORD).

[bible app] Webster's Bible (WBT) down

Noah Webster's 1833 limited revision of the King James Bible focused mainly on replacing archaic words and making simple grammatical changes. For example: "why" instead of "wherefore", "its" instead of "his" when referring to nonliving things, "male child" instead of "manchild", etc. He also introduced euphemisms to remove words he found offensive: "whore" becomes "lewd woman". Overall, very few changes were made, and the result is a book which is almost indistinguishable from the King James Bible. It has sometimes been called the "Common Version" (which is not to be confused with the Common Bible of 1973, an ecumencial edition of the Revised Standard Version).
Modern critics are surprised by just how little Webster changed the King James Bible. His revision was very light, as he did not want to make the language wholly contemporary, but rather wanted to correct flaws he disagreed with as an educator. Other, less orthodox Americans were bringing out their own versions of the New Testament, but he had no interest in theologically motivated changes. One notable change that was beyond just revising language flaws was a correction changing the word "Easter" in Acts 12:4 to the word "Passover".
It is noteworthy that throughout Webster's revision of the King James Bible, the lexicographer replaced "Holy Ghost" with "Holy Spirit". Webster did so because he knew that in the Scriptures this expression did not mean "an apparition". In the preface of his Bible, Webster wrote: "Some words have fallen into disuse; and the signification of others, in current popular use, is not the same now as it was when they were introduced into the version. The effect of these changes is, that some words are not understood by common readers, who have no access to commentaries, and who will always compose a great proportion of readers; while other words, being now used in a sense different from that which they had when the translation was made, present a wrong signification or false ideas. Whenever words are understood in a sense different from that which they had been introduced, and different from that of the original languages, they do not present to the reader the Word of God."
The problem with the older books was confusion on the part of readers as the language styles had been evolving over the years and a lot of meaning of the text in this Bible was being lost on the average reader. Some passages were misunderstood. Grammar had evolved as well and the above changes made an easier read while purifying the language and making it more delicate.

Darby English Bible App for Android

The Darby Bible (DBY, formal title The Holy Scriptures: A New Translation from the Original Languages by J. N. Darby) refers to the Bible as translated from Hebrew and Greek by John Nelson Darby. Darby published a translation of the New Testament in 1867, with revised editions in 1872 and 1884. After his death, some of his students produced an Old Testament translation based on Darby's French and German translations (see below). The complete Darby Bible, including Darby's 3rd edition New Testament and his students' Old Testament, was first published in 1890.[1]
J. N. Darby's purpose was, as he states in the preface to his English NT, to make a modern translation for the unlearned who have neither access to manuscript texts nor training and knowledge of ancient languages of the Scriptures. He was the principal scholar for a number of translations – and not the sole translator of any one of the various translations that bear his name. He worked with various brethren who had academic and spiritual qualifications. He also acknowledges dependence on the critical work ofSamuel Prideaux Tregelles and various other scholars. Darby's translation work was not intended to be read aloud. His work was for study and private use. In his own oral ministry he generally used the English KJV.
When Mr. Darby first issued his New Translation into English he wrote in the preface to the Revelation 'if the reader find my translation exceedingly similar to Mr. William Kelly's, I can only rejoice in it, as mine was made a year or two before his came out, and he has never seen mine up to the time of my writing this . . .' (Darby went on to write that his New Testament translation had been lying by him for some years then). In his introduction to the 1890, German version, he wrote, "In the issue of this translation, the purpose is not to offer to the man of letters a learned work, but rather to provide the simple and unlearned reader with as exact a translation as possible."

The Revised Version, Standard American Edition of the Bible, more commonly known as the American Standard Version(ASV), is a version of the Bible that was first released in 1900. It was originally best known by its full name, but soon came to have other names, such as the American Revised Version, the American Standard Revision, the American Standard Revised Bible, and the American Standard Edition. By the time its copyright was renewed in 1929, it had come to be known by its present name, the American Standard Version. Because of its prominence in seminaries, it was in America sometimes simply called the "Standard Bible".
